Frozen Food Shipping and Warehousing
If your food or pharmaceutical products require cold storage, you know that selecting the right pallet comes with a unique set of challenges. Wood is strong for heavy-duty warehouse racking but is susceptible to moisture issues. Plastic is easy to keep clean but some materials can become brittle as the temperatures drop.
Most any plastic pallet can get the job done in cold temps. Even in temperatures below 32F. To find the best freezer pallet for your cold storage, your pallet professional will ask about your product load, storage conditions and shipping requirements. Some of our popular plastic pallets can be manufactured with freezer additives to make them more resilient in colder temps.
Need to go colder? Frozen food products and drugs or vaccines that require sub zero temperatures will need a true freezer grade pallet. This means any product consistently held at temperatures below 0 degrees F. Look for pallets manufactured with LDPE or HDPE plastic resins. These materials perform best. Some of these pallets can go as far as -50F before showing signs of becoming brittle.
In addition to selecting the right plastic resin for your specific cold storage requirements, the wall thickness needs to be considered. Generally speaking, a thicker wall is more resistant to failure.
Methods used for transporting frozen food and other chilled products is also a consideration for choosing a plastic freezer pallet. This includes everything from packaging operations to processes for moving palletized product from the freezer to truck.
